The Sudden Life of Albert Canby

Written and directed by Adam Burns, 2002

Short expressionistic art film based on one of my short stories, decidedly influenced by Jean Cocteau and The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari. It won Best Editor award from Brooklyn College. I degraded the 8mm footage with sandpaper, editing with a razor blade. (This was made several years before Stranger Than Fiction.)

Thank you to all involved: Elyas Khan : actor / Axel Ebermann : camera / Marcio Venturi : camera / Bill Savoy : still photography / Cheyenne Timperio : makeup / Thank you Amanda Taylor and Clovis Press, Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

ALLA’S NIGHTMARE — a collaboration with composer Nick T. Moore

Introduction to the solo show Garden of Alla — The Alla Nazimova Story, written and performed by Romy Nordlinger. Unfortunately this only has the theater audio. In theaters it was loud and jarring, a real mood setter.

Silver screen video environment for the solo show Garden of Alla — The Alla Nazimova Story, written and performed by Romy Nordlinger.

The evocative black and white video and sweeping original score envelop the performer in a live silent film — a hybrid of film and theatre. The immersive landscape illuminates her journey from turn of the century Yalta to New York and Hollywood in the 1920’s, including her infamous Garden of Allah. Nominated for the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Animation & Projection.

Music by Nick T. Moore.

30 second video loop I made for the Home page. My name is an anagram of 'absurd man' which has always meant a lot to me because of Albert Camus' absurd man philosophy. Photography by Bill Savoy.
